It's a really interesting style that captures the change from Australia's inherited brewing preferences from the countries English immigrants. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAustralian Pale Ales are almost as if brewers intended to make British style pale ales, but were restricted to using Australian cultivated ingredients, and instead of casks, they packaged the beer into kegs that could keep the beers colder and fresher in the Australian climate. Maize has been added into the grist of the beer, as Australian brewers often added a proportion of maize to their lagers and some pale ales as it was cheap, didn't require malting and was high in sugar. Some of the earliest brewing in the Aussie colony was using Maize, with the first commercially produced alcohol in Sydney in 1796 being reported as a Corn Beer.
