On June 8th, we hosted Yakima Chief Hops (YCH) for the largest UK workshop they've ever hosted. We hosted over 30 breweries from across the South West to talk about sustainability, hop innovation sensory and hop breeding.
Yakima Chief Hops or better known as YCH are a 100% grower owned network of family hop farmers based in the Pacific Northwest USA across Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Operating for over 30 years, YCH are behind many of the most iconic hop varieties on the market; Citra & Simcoe to name a couple.
To celebrate, we teamed up to brew Yakima Dreams.
YCH donated a portion of the hop bill which, gave us a rare opportunity to load this beer with way more hops than we usually could!
We gave Dave & Ruben from YCH the lead on the choice of hop varieties. We usually stick to around 3 different hops in our specials but they created a MASSIVE six-hop lineup: Chinook, Ekuanot, Dolcita, Krush, Talus, and Idaho 7.
We also got to use their new liquid extracts: Dynaboost and Hyperboost.
Yakima Dreams doesn’t just use conventional “hop pellets”, it also uses liquid hop extracs; Dynaboost (for hotside) and Hyperboost (cold side). Dyna/Hyperboost are liquid hop products, made out of 100% hops. These liquid hop products give much more focused hop characteristics and aromas as the oil content is much, much higher. For context, 100ml of Hyperboost packs the same punch as 10kg of normal T90 pellets.
